The Best Blueberry Protein Overnight Oats

Easy Overnight Oats Recipe

Feb 28, 2025

I’ve been trying for some time to find an overnight oats recipe I like, and this one takes the cake! It was important to me to find one without greek yogurt. I don’t hate on greek yogurt, but I’m not a fan of the flavor it gives my oats. This recipe is good as is, tasting like blueberry-cinnamon cobbler. It is ALSO good if you play around with it. Make it your own and try different flavor combinations! These oats have saved my mornings, and I have never gotten tired of them!

Why Overnight Oats?

You may be asking yourself why you should make these. There is nothing wrong with a traditional, steaming-hot bowl of oatmeal. But overnight oats provide a different experience all together.

The creamy texture of overnight oats paired with the convience of it make this a meal-prep staple. This easy grab-and-go overnight oats recipe will truly change your energy and mornings.

I started making these about three years ago when they started trending on Tik Tok. No, I am not immune to the trends lol. Honestly, I hated the first recipe I tried. It just tasted like cold soggy bread with greek yogurt. BUT, I became determine to find a version of this dish that I liked, and this is it people.

This breakfast got me through my Associates degree, literally. I would prep 5 at the beginning of the week, and bring one to school with me every morning to eat between classes. I never deviated from the recipe or even changed the berries, and somehow I never got sick of it.

The Base Ingredients:

  • Banana– The banana in this recipe is what gives the sweetness to the oats. I have a friend who is allergic to bananas, however, so I came up with a few substitutions. You can use applesauce or yogurt (not my preferred option, but it works) or omit the banana altogether and add some maple syrup for sweetness instead.
  • Oats– I recommend using old-fashioned rolled oats for overnight oats, as they tend to create a thicker end result. But quick oats were on sale a few months ago, so I used those for a while, and it turned out just fine, just a little runny.
  • Protein Powder– This ingredient not only gives this recipe some flavor, but it is what makes it sucha well-balanced breakfast. Depending on the protein powder you use, this can add anywhere from 15 to 30 grams of protein!
  • Chia Seeds– The chia seeds absorb some of the liquid, giving the overnight oats that creamy, pudding-like texture. They also add some nutrients as well!
  • Milk of choice– I use almond milk in this recipe, but any milk you have will work. I don’t find it affects the flavor much unless you use coconut milk.
  • Blueberries– Once again, this is a customizable option. I love blueberries, and they taste amazing with this recipe, but you can use any berries or fruit you like!
  • Cinnamon– This is a staple for this recipe. I use A LOT of cinnamon as I find it masks the leftover flavor from the protein powder. It also makes this taste more like a baked-good than breakfast.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I have to use protein powder?

No. Protein powder is just my way of adding in protein to this recipe because I am not a fan of yogurt in overnight oats. You can easily omit it or replace it with greek yogurt to add protein!

Can I heat it up?

I would not reheat this recipe as it is. Protein powder tends to congeale and clump when heated in oatmeal in the microwave. So, if you want this recipe warm, I would not add the protein powder until after you have heated the oatmeal.

Make these Overnight Oats Your Own

These overnight oats are an incredibly tasty meal-prep option that will keep you satisfied all morning long! What I love about this recipe is how much you can mix it up, depending on your preference. Just use this as a guide to discover your own favorite flavor combinations and ingredients.

Also, play around with the toppings. I typically use a tablespoon or so of almond butter on top of these. But I’ve also used granola, almonds, more berries, and maple syrup. So experiment here as well to see what you like the best.

If you try this recipe, please feel free to leave me a comment with your thoughts and questions. I’d also love to know how you customize it and make it your own! Enjoy!
